One of the best-known personalities in Twin Cities broadcasting, John Hines was a mainstay of Minnesota radio and television for more than 46 years. John was born and raised in South Minneapolis and started his career at WAKC in Normal, Illinois, in July 1972. The following year, he moved back to Minneapolis to work at WWTC-AM. In 1975, he joined Hubbard Broadcasting’s KSTP-AM and Charlie Bush and found success with the “Hines in the Morning Plus Bush” show. Moving to television in 1980, John hosted “Twin Cities Today” on KSTP-TV, Channel 5. In 1981, John joined Bob Berglund at WLOL-FM, taking the station to the number one spot in the market. A decade later, John went to K102-FM, rejoining Charlie Bush, where he remained for almost 17 years as a morning show personality while helping the station to earn a Station of the Year Award from the Country Music Association. Until 2018, John could be heard weekdays from 9 a.m. until noon on WCCO-AM.
