Become a Blue Cross agent

Our independent authorized agents are a valued community resource and a key sales channel.

Agent requirements

We rely on the best agents across Minnesota to help us make a healthy difference in people’s lives. Once you’re appointed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and Blue Plus (Blue Cross), you must comply with all terms, conditions and limitations outlined in the Agent Agreement and follow our agent code of conduct.

To become a Blue Cross agent, you must:

  • Be a resident of Minnesota, or a Minnesota bordering county in Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, or Wisconsin
  • Be licensed by the Minnesota Department of Commerce to sell accident and health insurance
  • Have professional liability coverage
  • Contact one of our Preferred General Agencies to complete an application (see below)

Our Preferred General Agency (PGA) contracting model creates a deeper partnership with agents and agencies. PGAs are a key resource for agent onboarding, training, sales and service support.

If you’re an independent agent, you’ll need to align with a PGA to sell Blue Cross products.
