BlueHPN provides access to in-network providers in most states, including more than 65 major U.S. cities. 

  • Everyone on your plan lives in a metropolitan area that offers BlueHPN  
  • Your preferred doctors, specialists and hospitals are in BlueHPN or you're willing to switch to a participating BlueHPN provider
  • The cities you travel to frequently have BlueHPN doctors, specialists and hospitals available

Important information about coverage

As a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota member in BlueHPN, you are required to receive healthcare services from in-network doctors and hospitals. Healthcare services received from out-of-network doctors and hospitals will only be covered in urgent* or emergency situations or if the services were approved by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota in advance. In an emergency, please seek medical help immediately.

*Urgent care is defined as medical care provided for illnesses or injuries that require prompt attention but are typically not of such seriousness as to require the services of an emergency room. Urgent care services received from out-of-network doctors and hospitals are only covered in geographic areas in which there are no BlueHPN doctors and hospitals available.
