When you use your health plan benefits from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota or Blue Plus, you want to know that your medical bills are getting paid. Find out the status of your claims online or through customer service.
Submitting claims to Blue Cross
If you visit an in-network doctor, hospital or other health care provider, you don’t need to submit a claim to Blue Cross. Your provider will submit the claim for you.
If you visit an out-of-network provider, you will need to submit one of these claim forms to Blue Cross (the address is on the form):
Note: Some health plans may use different claim forms.
Tracking Blue Cross claim payments online
You can check the status of your claims online on the Blue Cross member website. Register on this secure site on your first visit. Then sign in each time you visit.
Here is some of the claim information you can see on your member site (or app):
- Check the status of a claim or make sure it has been paid
- View past claims
- See what the plan paid and what you need to pay out-of-pocket
- Check your Health Savings Account (HSA) balance if you have an account
- Identify progress toward meeting your deductible
Claim summary will be sent to you
If you owe the provider more than the copay for an office visit, Blue Cross will send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) after the claim has been paid. It shows what services you received, what your health plan paid and the amount you’re responsible for paying to the provider. Learn more about EOBs.
