How do I find my network?
There are three ways to find your network when you're using the search tool:
- Log in (or register) and the system will know your network
- Enter the group number shown on your member ID card into the group number field before you search
- Call the customer service number on the back of your member ID card
- For individual and family plan and small group plan members:
- Individual and family plans: Network names generally are the same as the plan names. (Portability Blue Plus HMO plan uses the Blue Plus Primary Care network)
- Small group plans: BlueAccess plans use the Aware network, AdvanceHealth plans use the AdvanceHealth network and High Value plans use the High Value network
What is a network?
A network is a group of doctors, clinics, hospitals and other health care providers that you can see for a lower cost. Blue Cross and Blue Plus have many different health plans and networks. Your network may be different from another member's network.
That's why you need to select your network before you search for a doctor. This way you can be sure your search results show only the doctors your plan covers. If you choose to visit doctors outside your network, you will pay more, or even all, of the cost.
How do I know what doctors and services my plan covers?
All plans have different coverage options when it comes to specific doctors, clinics, services and treatments.
Sometimes you may need to get approval, or prior authorization before get care. Other times, you may need to know if both the doctor and service are included in your plan. Why? Sometimes your plan may cover a service and a clinic, but not the doctor or nurse practitioner.

Can I search for medical care costs in advance of care?
Yes, those with an individual and family or employer-provided plan can use the Find a Doctor tool to look up 1,700+ procedures and services. Estimates provided will be based on that provider's claims for the procedure and your personal plan benefits and health care spending to date. You must log in to see your out-of-pocket cost estimates.
Where can I get care if my doctor's not available?
Your primary care doctor is often the best person to help when you're sick. But when you can't see your doctor, you can visit walk-in clinics and online doctors. These are convenient options that may save you time and money. Know your options for getting care.
When should I visit a doctor instead of an ER or urgent care clinic?
When accidents happen, you may need to decide quickly where to get care. Emergency rooms, urgent care centers and doctor offices are all options. Plan ahead before you need to make a quick decision. Find out when to go where.
Can I see a doctor online?
Yes, many providers offer telehealth and e-visit virtual care options. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota also offers Doctor On Demand — where you can talk with a doctor through online video.
