Get to know Blue Cross wellness coaches

A wellness coach can help you take steps to improve or manage your health. See if your plan includes a wellness coach to get support achieving your health goals.

When it comes to making healthy changes, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota wellness coaches are the experts. Some Blue Cross health plans offer ongoing wellness coaching to help you set health goals and learn how to reach them. Your coach will also offer support and encouragement to keep you on the road to better health.

What does a wellness coach do?

Ongoing wellness coaching is available to some Blue Cross and Blue Plus members. They can help you:

If your plan includes the wellness coaching program, you will first talk on the phone with a wellness coach. Then, your coach will help you set goals and create a plan to reach them. Together, you’ll track your progress and celebrate success along the way. And if you have a setback, your coach will help get you back on track.

Set up a consultation and you’ll soon be on your way to better health. Your coach can point you to resources in your community, like a registered dietician, a discounted gym membership, or information on many health topics.

Does my health plan cover wellness coaches?

Many Blue Cross health plans include benefits for the wellness coaching program. To find out if your plan offers wellness coaching, call the number on the back of your plan ID card and ask about a personal wellness consultation.

How is a wellness coach different from a case manager?

There are many health professionals that can help you achieve your health goals. Here are a couple of them and how they differ:

  • A wellness coach specializes in helping people make changes to improve and maintain their health. They may have training and certification in a variety of health and nutrition programs.
  • A case manager is a licensed health care professional. They work with people who have complex health issues and help them make the best decisions for their health.

Blue Cross members also have access to other resources and programs to get help with their health:

  • The nurse line has registered nurses that are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They help assess symptoms over the phone and can help you find the best possible care.
  • The maternity management program connects expectant mothers with a specially trained health coach. These coaches can provide personal support and education during pregnancy.

Preventive care

Preventive care is important for everyone. Gender, age, family and health histories are usually factors.
