Blue Cross plans come with valuable benefits that can help your employees get better sleep, whether it’s the occasional restless night to persistent insomnia.
04/14/21
Sleep has been identified as one of the five health behaviors that are key for preventing chronic disease.i. Yet, one-third of U.S. adults say they usually don’t get enoughii — and that was before the pandemic. Early evidence indicates a 37% increase in the rates of clinical insomnia (from 14.6% to 20%) from before to the peak of the COVID pandemic.iii Other evidence suggests individuals who develop sleep disturbances during COVID-19 may be at greater risk for long-term adverse outcomes.iv
Lack of sleep is associated with an increased risk for conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, obesity and depression.v In addition to disease, not getting enough sleep also contributes to motor vehicle crashes and machinery-related injuries, causing substantial injury and disability each year.vi
