(EAGAN, Minnesota) August 25, 2016 — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) today announced two executive leadership roles. Dana Erickson, who joined the company senior director, care management, has been promoted from senior director to vice president, care management. Erin Satterwhite joins the organization in a newly appointed role as vice president of innovation.

In her new role, Erickson is accountable for strategic planning, development, implementation and administration of care management programs for all lines of business, including case, disease and utilization management.
“With an extensive background in both nursing and in social work, Dana has great insights into what is required to deliver appropriate and effective care management.,” said Garrett Black, senior vice president of health services for Blue Cross. “I know she will continue to provide strong leadership for Blue Cross and ensure that we have the highest value health care for our commercial and government market customers.”
Prior to joining Blue Cross, Erickson worked for Anoka County Social Services. Her health plan leadership experience also includes seven years at United Health Group— Optum Health, where she served as director of medical and clinical operations before being named vice president of strategic accounts and Erickson has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin— Milwaukee and studied social work at the University of Wisconsin— Eau Claire.

In the newly created role of vice president of innovation, Satterwhite will focus on building an innovation accelerator model for Blue Cross in order to rapidly design, pilot and bring new ideas to market. This approach will provide the organization with a process and methodology that uses design-thinking and consumer-centricity to create and reimagine the business in a rapidly changing marketplace.

Erin will help us continue to transform our business as we work to bring new health care products and solutions to market.”
Prior to Blue Cross, Satterwhite served as director of new business ventures for Bayer Health Care Consumer Care, where she focused on building new business models and securing partners to commercialize transformational and digital solutions for pain management. Additionally, Satterwhite has held various innovation leadership positions at 3M within their Health Care Business Group, Infection Prevention Division and Corporate Research Laboratory. Satterwhite holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s in infectious disease and immunology from the University of Minnesota.
