Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota to mirror MNsure’s special enrollment period for individual market

Applies to Blue Plus ACO plan sign-ups, February 1- February 8

(Eagan, Minnesota) January 31, 2017 - Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Blue Cross) today announced that the company is mirroring MNsure’s week-long Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for people who sign up for individual and family coverage off of the exchange. This additional SEP will run concurrently with MNsure, beginning on Wednesday, February 1 and ending Wednesday, February 8, 2017.

The one week off-exchange SEP allows more Minnesotans to enroll in individual coverage and potentially become eligible for premium rebates under Minnesota’s new Health Care Emergency Aid and Access Act. Qualifying Blue Plus individual plan members will see a 25 percent premium discount beginning with the invoice for their May 2017 coverage.

“Blue Cross wants to ensure that people have adequate time to make a decision about the best health plan option for themselves and their families,” said Monica Engel, vice president of consumer markets.

Individuals wishing to purchase an individual and family health plan direct from Blue Cross during the off-exchange SEP can talk to an agent, shop online at BlueCrossMN.com or stop in at one of Blue Cross’ three retail center locations in Edina, Roseville and Duluth.
