EAGAN, Minn. (November 23, 2015) — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) today announced a workforce expansion into Hennepin County with the upcoming opening of its Minneapolis Mid-City Office in January 2016. Located in the Broadway Place East building at 3433 Broadway Street, N.E., the new Blue Cross offices will make the state’s largest health insurer a new member of the Mid-City Industrial neighborhood in Northeast Minneapolis.
The process of Blue Cross procuring a staff location within the city was driven by recent business developments. In July, the Minnesota Department of Human Services selected Blue Plus — the health maintenance organization (HMO) of Blue Cross — as an option for state health program enrollees in Hennepin County starting in 2016, ending a 25-year absence. The Mid-City location stands as a commitment by Blue Cross and its HMO to support the populations served by these programs and strengthen relationships with community groups in the city and throughout Hennepin County.
The capacity of the Mid-City office space will allow Blue Cross to place more than 100 jobs within Minneapolis during the first year. The leased space covers about 29,000 square feet over two floors within the Broadway Place East building.
“The new Minneapolis Mid-City Office allows us to expand our reach within Hennepin County,” said Michael Guyette, president and chief executive officer, Blue Cross. “This space offers a more accessible location for those seeking employment in and near the area. It’s similar to the model we have implemented with great success in attracting local talent at our northern offices on the Iron Range. We are excited for this growth in recruitment possibilities in the metro beyond our headquarters in Eagan.”
The Minneapolis office’s various functions will support all business lines. While the primary staff will represent the customer service and claims departments, the Mid-City location will broadly support all Blue Cross operations. The majority of all service and claims processing functions will continue to take place in St. Louis County at the Blue Cross locations in Virginia and Aurora.
